Other Herbs:
Dill has a reputation for being difficult to transplant. I have not found
this to be so, nevertheless I ship extra seeds with my dill plants.
This annual needs full sun and the more you harvest it's leaves the
more it will produce and the longer it will keep from going to seed.
I find Fern leaf dill the best for pots, as it doesn't flop over in
the wind. Dill will disappear when the temperature dips below freezing. If you've left some of the plant go to seed it will probably return next year.
Dill Uses and Gardening Tips:
Growing Dill Indoors
Not a good candidate for indoor living.
Culinary Uses
Combined with melted butter it makes an excellent, easy sauce for fish. If you are a "real cook" I'm sure you know how much more complex fresh dill leaves are then the dried. Quite a good addition to rice or practically any soup. The seeds are a bit stronger then the leaf.
Landscaping Uses
There is only one good reason to sow dill away from your kitchen as it certainly isn't a spectacularly beautiful plant. The caterpillars of the swallowtail butterfly love it and will happily stay in your yard, so plant a bit for them.
